National Skills Registry (NSR)  |  A Trusted Industry Benchmark

The National Skills Registry (NSR) is a NASSCOM initiative aimed at creating a trusted, verified workforce for the Indian IT and ITeS/BPO industry. As part of its Trusted Sourcing framework, NSR is designed to position India as a reliable and preferred offshore destination by building a robust national database of registered and verified professionals.

NSR maintains a lifetime profile for each individual in the industry, uniquely identified through biometric data. These profiles include verified personal and professional information, along with the results of independent background checks conducted by certified third-party agencies.

Built as a secure, web-based platform, NSR serves as a single source of truth for existing and prospective employees in the IT and ITeS sectors. It is actively used by companies and their clients as a credible reference to assess workforce integrity, making it an invaluable resource for the industry.

To maintain the integrity of the registry, Empaneled Background Checkers (EBCs) are authorized by NASSCOM and NSDL Database Management Ltd. (NDML) to verify the data submitted by Knowledge Professionals (KPs). These verified results are then recorded directly in the NSR system.

Out of thousands of background verification companies in India, only a select few - just over 20 - have earned the distinction of being NSR-empaneled EBCs.
